About Belonging
Every review we receive, in one place. From homeowners and residents, across every review site, newest first. Including the ones we wish read differently.
We read every one of these. The ones that made someone’s week, and the ones where we got it wrong.
Reviews are the part of this business we don’t get to write. That is exactly why they belong on one page, all of them, instead of the handful we would have picked out.
If yours isn’t here yet, I’d like to hear it.

- We reached out to Belong to schedule an appointment to tour an apartment for rent that was managed by Belong. They responded via email with a time for our appointment and said there was a link that we received confirming the appointment. We never received that link, nor did it go to our spam mail (we checked the junk folder). We followed up with Belong again for the confirmation link and they said that we would be fine just to go directly to the appointment. On the day of the scheduled tour, we arrived during our appointment window. There was a security gate to enter the building that we were never provided an access code to, so we both emailed and called Belong. We never received an email response about the code, and the representative on the phone said she had no information or record of our scheduled appointment and that the tours had already ended for the day two hours prior. This was completely unprofessional and shocking to us because we had an entire email exchange with several emails documenting our scheduled appointment at the designated time we arrived at. We were finally able to get the security access code to enter the building and by the time we reached the apartment to check if we could “just show up” as the Belong team member had suggested over email initially, no one was present at the apartment to give us the scheduled tour. Please stay away from this property management company. We were not tenants with them but even as prospective applicants, this was an utterly unacceptable experience.
- Not recommend, Overcharge, Not professional, unfair to tenants. They passed 21 days and still have not given back our deposit. We only lived there for one year and they tried to make use of our deposit to paint the house and deduct it from the deposit. I will not recommend them.
- Belong only protects landlord's interest, not tenants' interest. They delayed us for giving back our deposit. We are good tenants who try to preserve the rental as much as we can because we are home owners. They overcharge for their service and that is how they make money. Our one-month deposit is almost all deducted even though it is just small wear and tear. We give our tenants all the deposit with minor deductions for cleaning. Even though spend hundreds of dollars on cleaning they still charge a huge cleaning fee. They charge us 2000 dollars for repainting the house even though there is minor spot discoloration on the wall. They charged the high end for the application fee. They overcharged a fee even though it was their fault. With automatic payment setup, they still made a mistake and charged us a 'late fee' for a couple of hundred dollars. We will not let them manage our property in the Bay area or recommend anyone rent a house managed by BELONG.
- My review does not even register the chart. We give them a negative score. They do nothing but empty the pocket of the homeowners, to please the tenants. And they are tenants - NOT RESIDENTS. In a one year period, we went through 5 reps. Now, at the end of the lease, they are trying to blame us, the owners, for damage the tenants did. Disgusting. A terrible, unhonest way to do business. DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THEM!!
- Absolutely the most unprofessional experience with Belong. If you are a property owner there are better options with actual professionals. Watch out for the 500 minimum auto approval. The idea you can be a "hands-off landlord" utilizing Belong is so far from reality! I don't know if it is because they are a start-up not ready to scale or what. My personal favorite was trying the customer service line several times over a weekend and it just rang and rang, no answer. That's how bad!
- If I could rate this property management company negative ten stars I would. My experience with Belong has been terrible!!!!When there is a problem in my home that needs to get fixed, I get a constant run around.A stall tactic is used repeatedly, by having several different vendors come in, to keep diagnosing the same problem. From the very start of dealing with the property management company, I was charged incorrectly by thousands of dollars.I waited about 5 months to get my water heater fixed in my home and some refrigerator parts for my refrigerator. These items never got fixed and I kept getting the run around with my concierge from the company. She was overall a very ineffective concierge. She was very by the books when it came to getting money from me, but not when it came to fixing stuff in my home. This is the reason why last minute, I decided to not renew my lease for another year. Not because of the landlord, but because of a their terrible property management company.I gave the heads-up that I was going to be leaving about a week before I moved. That week turned into even more time, due to the place that I was going to be moving to falling through.I repeatedly told my concierge I wanted a pre-move out inspection and she continuously denied this for me.Saying they didn’t have enough time to perform the inspection.Legally I have the right to a pre move out inspection.I know my rights. If I request one I’m entitled to it.This being the reason why I wanted the pre move out inspection and why I told my concierge several times that I was requesting one.In the end I was excessively over charged for items in the home. The property management company is attempting to charge me $1,500 to get a stain out of a carpet…$650 to remove a few dishes out of a dishwasher-a mop-flip flop and about 6 small bricks…. $850 for a $50 spackling job for nail holes in the living room. They are attempting to give me back $770 dollars from a $4,500 security deposit.
